back from hiatus

Long story short, getting ready for high school ate up my entire social, athletic, and blog life! I apologize for the unannounced disappearance and I hope that it is my last. But I’m back, hopefully for good.
My school year started the 24th and I had an incredible first week filled with (if I may say so myself) lovely outfits. My plan is to take my pictures in the mornings, and post the following afternoon. I’ll try to post at least 3 times a week. Can’t wait to start posting again!

Greetings from Oregon

I’m so happy to be in Portland with my family and I will be here through the end of the week!! Tomorrow I’m going vintage shopping in downtown with my mother and we have about five places in mind to look at. Does anyone know of any good vintage stores in the area I should check out?

I’ll post pictures of any good finds Friday morning.

fallen in love with shop ployy

In short: a Bangkok, Thailand based blogshop with incredible pieces. It's become my new obsession. I lust after this YSL tee and these perfect peach shorts.

leopard spots and polka dots

While looking through

the June/July issue

of Harper’s Bazaar, I noticed

this photo on p. 86.

The combination of polka dots accompanied by leopard print reminded me of one of my saved feeds on bloglines from lookbook.nu. Once I found the look I quickly realized, “hey, I can do that!”

This how my attempted replication turned out...

rainbow sherbet

In the words of Rachel Zoe, “I die” when I see this look via Jak & Jil Blog. The combination of the peach button down tucked into baby blue dress pants is brilliant. The two beautiful solid pieces are brought together perfectly by the slender leather belt and the elegant buckle. But even better than the color combination is the fact that this ensemble is, you guessed, school appropriate!

I’m not absolutely sure about the trousers but a peach button down with a leather belt just landed their spot on my school clothes shopping list.

How do you feel about the summer trend of sorbet colors? Would you personally continue it into your fall wardrobe?

high heels(?)

I cannot count the times I’ve seen a well put together outfit that was perfectly polished off by a pair of incredible high heels. Look at any picture on a blog, magazine spread, or well dress woman and you will see the hypnotizing effect a marvelous pair of pumps has. But, are they okay for school?

In 8th grade I wore my black suede Enzo Angiolini ankle boots to school twice. I got positive and negative reactions. That seemed perfectly appropriate by my parents. But just recently I was denied an even higher more sophisticated pair of similar boots because they are “not appropriate for school let alone a 14 year old.”

So here is my question: where do you think the line is between acceptable and too mature in terms of shoes?

Every opinion expressed in the comments will be used to determine “the line” in a follow up post.

one

Long story short, I have been captivated by fashion since I was eight years old when I started flipping through the pages of the Vogue Magazines that belonged to my mother, a Vogue subscriber since age ten.

Seven years later I feel the same love for fashion, developed an unfortunate retail addiction, and am entering a high school with an even more unfortunate dress code.

The rules that apply to me are as follows…

1. Shoes must be worn.

2. Clothing which allows undergarments to be visible are not permitted.

3. Bare midriffs are not permitted.

4. Student shirts must be one of the following:

• t-shirts with a crew neck (no v-neck, square neck, scooped neck or plunging neckline shirts are allowed)

•polo shirts (long or short sleeve)

•collared shirt or blouse that is buttoned close to neckline

5. Lycra and spandex tights may be worn under clothing that meets other school guidelines. Shirts worn with leggings, spandex, or other like materials must be the appropriate length (two inches above the knee-cap).

6. Sweats, athletic pants, swishy pants, athletic shorts and board shorts are not permitted during the school day.

7. Dresses and skirts, including slits, should not be more than two inches above the top of the knee-cap.

8. Shorts may not be more than two inches above the knee.

9. Tattered or ripped clothing is not permitted.

10. Dyed hair may only be one uniform color.

11. Pierced ears are allowed along with one small nose piercing. Any other piercing must be deemed appropriate by the administration.

12. Inappropriate writing, logos, or graphics are not permitted on clothing.

13. Hats or headgear may not be worn inside any school building or during school functions.

14. No sunglasses in any school building.

***sigh*** I got pretty discouraged while typing that.Ok, not all of them are too unreasonable, I’m perfectly fine with wearing shoes and no sunglasses but I’ve really enjoyed cropped tops and short shorts this summer.

14 rules, 9 months, 1 girl, and 1 goal: learn how to be chic within the confines of a very strict dress code and a limited school clothing budget.

Wish me luck.
